Hey lovelies, let’s talk about teeth and our skin for a minute:
Our teeth are one of the first thing people see, especially when you’re smiling. We all know everyone loves white teeth. We feel better, inside and out, when are teeth are clean, white, and all around healthy and strong. Tooth decay, cavities, and plaque are all very serious and will happen fast without proper oral hygiene.
I have to admit that I haven’t been the best when it comes to do doing the above. Dentists recommend brushing teeth for at least 2 minutes, twice a day. I’m lucking if I brush them for at least 45 seconds–which, is around the average time most people spend brushing their teeth. And I’m just beginning to floss at least once a day. If you aren’t flossing, you’re missing out on giving your teeth a proper cleaning. My dentist once said that she’d rather see me floss if I’m in a rush and feeling lazy and depressed.
We both our coffee drinkers too. Coffee and acidic foods/ drinks will stain your teeth and damage your enamel. So beware.

Now, when it comes to my skin, I’m more attentive. I’m oily, acne prone, and suffer from stubborn blackheads. Sydney has the same issues, especially acne because of makeup. Besides makeup, stress and your diet can and will affect your skin. It’s important to find a skin care routine, like Sydney’s, and stick to it.
Avoid Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, fragances, parabens, along with DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (momoethnanolamine), and TEA (triethanolamine) as best as you can. This are all harmful, harsh chemicals your skin and body should not have.
So Sydney and I decided to make a healthy, all natural coffee and olive oil mask to help with acne and clean/whiten our teeth with water and charcoal as well.
Thanks to Amazon, I was able to get 100 activated charcoal capsules for under 10 bucks. It’s better than using expensive whitening strips and toothpastes that have way too many chemicals and ingredients in them–they also only barely get surface stains cleaned away.
Always go for natural if you can, it will never be a waste of money. In the end, it can save you it. Natural, homemade products can last longer and are better for your body. How is that not a win, win?
The process wasn’t very attractive and it was messy as hell. We had lots of fun though and it did our bodies and self-confidence some good. Our skin feels so soft and clean and a good layer of yellow surface stains on our teeth are washed away.
Guess with this look, we’re ready for Halloween! (:
For the mask, we used coffee grounds and olive oil bought at Costco. I didn’t measure, just kinda winged it. I have a problem with doing that–sometimes it works out though. Just be sure not to put too much oil, you want the grounds to still be grounds so it’s more of an exfoliating scrub.
For our teeth, we each emptied 2 capsules into a bowl with a tiny drop of water and dipped wet, unused toothbrushes into it. Then we brushed it on. Don’t be afraid if you swallow it because you will, it’s absolutely safe. Just don’t try to drank it, keep as much of it as you can on your teeth.
Any one remember Chip Skylark from the Fairly Odd Parents and his song “Shiny Teeth and Me?” I sure do and I’m not ashamed to be 23 and still singing it!
Leave the charcoal on for no longer than five minutes. The mask/scrub can stay on from anywhere to 5 minutes to 30 minutes if you want. We kept them both on for only five minutes, washing them off at the same time.
Be sure to rub the coffee into your skin with circular motions as you take it off, then wipe your face clean with a toner like Witch Hazel, Mizon AHA & BHA, or homemade Apple Cider Vinegar with water.
The charcoal will get stuck in your gums and between your teeth so brush, floss, and do a mouthwash rinse after
Okay, that’s it. Simple, all natural ways to brighten your skin and whiten your teeth. It’s not just simple, it’s quick as well. Great for when you’re in a pitch or feeling lazy.
Please, please make sure you are seeing your dentist, primary doctor, and a dermatologist if you think necessary too as often as needed! It isn’t a waste of time. I want and need all you guys to be as healthy as possible. ❤
